While keynoting an event in Pennsylvania this week, I had the privilege of witnessing a selfless act of giving. I spoke to the Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units. Now, it’s less important that you know what the PIAU does (it’s an association of the organizations that service schools around Pennsylvania) and more important that you hear about what they did at their meeting recently.
Event organizers planned a casino night and urged attendees to donate to Variety Pittsburgh, a children’s charity that helps kids with disabilities lead full lives. By the end of the night, the 300 plus attendees, vendors, and sponsors donated enough money to provide 10 children with accommodative bikes that will change their lives. All because PAIU reminded their people that it’s possible to think with your heart, as well as your head.
Not only was there a moving tribute to what their efforts made possible, but they also had a small bike parade where two of the lucky kids were presented their bikes and allowed to ride through a standing ovation. I can’t possibly express what an incredible moment it was in a blog post – check out the video to really see what I mean!
