Most of my August was spent in stillness. Quiet contemplation of life and an escape from the noise of our current world. While I was lounging in an Adirondack chair watching sailboats go by in one my favorite places on earth—Door County, Wisconsin—I was reminded that many people need a tool to breathe and relax.
Several years ago, I wrote a book called Wrapped in Stillness: A personal retreat guide that is meant for just this situation. If you need to get away and allow yourself time to hear your inner voice, I recommend you give my “baby” a try. The book was 10 years in the making—probably because I did a lot more thinking than writing. But when it was done, I had several readers tell me that a particular chapter changed their life. So, here is a link to one of my favorite chapters with an exercise that matters. It’s called “What Does Happy Look Like?”
Once you give this free sample of the book a try, if you’re inspired to purchase the whole book, you can find it available right here. I’ll mail it out to you myself.
One my favorite things about my book is that I have an original song that accompanies it. I thought it would be enjoyable to combine it with a photo montage, so I put the word out to my friends on social media that I was looking for shots with the theme of peace or a special place they go to find their inner quiet. I received more than 300 responses and I could only use 66 of them. Thank you to everyone who contributed, and special thanks to Amy Lacey for writing the song and Eric Dodge for your performance. I didn’t realize when we did this project years ago that 2020 would be when we would need it most.
